The General States of Energy Efficiency in Morocco

Given the increase and volatility of oil prices, which represents more than 60 % of the primary energy consumption of Morocco, and the increase in energy demand due to the growing energy consumption, expected to increase in the coming years in order to support the implementation of major projects launched in Morocco, this national debate aims to identify Morocco’s strategy for energy efficiency for 2030, and to develop it into concrete action plans in the short, mid and long terms.

The General States of Energy Efficiency is a largescale dialogue, which associates all stakeholders at national, regional and local level, including local authorities, civil society, public & private sector, experts, donors, researchers, banks and trade unions, as part of a large-scale national debate.

This inclusive, multidimensional and unifying process, began with a detailed analysis of the current situation of energy efficiency in Morocco, which
was followed by a series of meetings, workshops and discussions about Energy Efficiency, involving all stakeholders, and lead to the development of a national strategy for energy efficiency, and a concrete action plan by 2030.

To this end, five sectorial committees have been formed and met separately with thematic workshops over a period of 4 months, with the aim of sharing the state of the Energy Efficiency in Morocco and produce a list of operational measures, able to create the enabling environment for the development of Energy Efficiency in Morocco.

To close this process, an Energy Efficiency Day will be organized, in order to present and showcase the National Strategy for Energy Efficiency. Will be taking part in this event all stakeholders involved in the process, as well as a panel of partners.
